The Buhari Administration on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 inaugurated an Ultra-modern Digital Leather Industrial Hub at Osile village, Oyi local government area of Anambra state.
Located at Ogbunike by Nkwelle Ezunaka Junction, the hub is a fulfillment of the administration’s promise to equip a one-stop-centre that will house an ultra-modern industrial shoe making hub with cutting edge technology, aimed at further boosting the non-oil sector of the nation’s economy.
The complex was jointly equipped by the Federal Government and the Anambra State Government.
The complex was unveiled by Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo who noted that the it was a “one-stop-shop digital leather and industrial hub” which represents the “nerve centre of the Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria”.
Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, described the complex as “Nigeria’s most modern Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) complex”.
The ultra-modern industrial shoe-making hub has cutting edge technology with capacity to produce, from start to finish, shoes that compare at all levels with shoes made in Europe.
The leather cluster has about 2,000 stores and almost 30,000 MSMEs operating there with a potential for monthly production of 96,000 shoe soles, 44,000 slippers, 44,000 shoes and 22,000 boots, as against the hitherto monthly production of 200 – 400 shoes.
The complex also houses several agencies that play critical roles in the industrial sector of the country. These are Bank of Industry (BOI), Nigerian Standard Organisation (NSO), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Nigerian Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN), Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the National Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Clinics for Viable Enterprises.
